Nono.
Purple and violet are the same color: that is, we experience rhem the
same way.  However, in scientific terms, the two refer to very different
patterns of lightwaves.  Both patterns just happen to excite the cones
in our eyes the same way.  In common parlance, of course, nobody
distinguishes between the two, although my Dad (and me, somewhat) seems
to see purple as covering a wider array of colors than violet does.
