Forgot to mention: in three-syllable words the first vowel is often dropp=
ed=20
(with resulting palatization/labialization of initial consonant), leaving=
=20
Georgian-like clusters. This is most true of rapid speech, and the moder=
n=20
langauge is beginning to reflect this in orthography, which tends to be v=
ery=20
conservative in Tech.
So...
>`ap'aro wild boar
Uh, this is an exception. Syncope does not occur in laryngeal-initial=20
words.
>`iri ass (male or colt)
>bo=E7a young deer
>buk'a bovine(s), cattle
>bukegho billygoat, ram
b=BAkegho (where =BA marks labialization)
>buyl'a marten, ermine, sable
>=E7oma aurochs, buffalo
>=E7awra bull, calf
>diq'a goat
>eli deer, ram
>gadi kid, young goat
>ghawi wild game (esp. goat/sheep)
>gurha antelope (esp. male)
>k=E4tt'a wild goat
>k'unarra marten, polecat
k'=BAnarra
>ma=F1go monkey
>orru gazelle, deer
>p'ok'=FC cattle (herd)
>siwi=F1ge leopard
s=B4wi=F1ge (=B4 marks palatization)
>tl'ibugha hyena
tl=B4'bugha (a sequence of palatized tl' followed by bu)
>uraba squirrel (or small rodent)
>=FCrrawi lion, tiger (or large cat)
Again, no syncope of words beginning with glottal stop or any other=20
laryngeal.
