I agree. I have a lot of trouble distinguishing between [I] and [i]; I can
hear the difference easily, but I think of them as the same phoneme, and I
often mispronounce one for the other. But I like [y], I think it's a
beautiful sound.[1] :-)
[1] Which *could* be an unconscious factor in deciding to use [Hy] as the
feminine proper noun prefix in Ebisedian.
