My original post was long, and there was a lot to take in. However, it did correctly state that articles with 'y' as the central vowel have inanimate gender while 'e' corresponds to polite feminine. In the example of "ren-ryniu cynt", we have: Ren-ryniu cynt -- her sword (nom) Ren -- she ryniu cynt -- the.NOM sword The word order for possessive phrases (possessing entity NP followed by possessed entity NP) is the opposite of, I understand, Welsh, in which the two noun phrases appear the other way around.
