Is that really an example of random changes, or of the standard taking some
forms one 'lect and others from another.
I can't find it now, but I saw a pretty scary Danish example of the later. I
shan't swear to the exact forms, but something like this: the modern
prescriptive forms _muje_ and _fo/de_ ("o/"=o-slash) are different dialects'
treatments of originals similar to modern Swedish _möda_ och _föda_
("ö"=o-umlaut).
