Ah, but this one is listed as an alternate pronunciation in the AHD.
I fear we've lost the war.

CXS /A`r\k@n's&s/; I'd have expected /A`r/'k&nz@s/ instead.
Lots of mispronounced Spanish around here in Georgia; Peggy Hill's got
nothing on our street and city names. The archetypical example is a major
street that runs from downtown Atlanta east through Decatur to Stone
Mountain called Ponce de Leon Avenue, pronounced /pAnsd@"lijAn/.
There's also a town further south well-known for its furniture
wholesalers, Unadilla /,jun@'dIl@/.
EZ> 1. Canadia - amusing malapropism derived from Canadian
I sometimes say "Canadan" . . . it's quite self-conscious, though.

It was only comparatively recently - and I'm 36 - that I learned how to
spell "minuscule".

Her Spanish is excellent; she's darn near fluent. It's just her accent
that's atrocious. :)
