In Tokana: Aun hiat kulhe kusoi ki kahpate aho ki hiat suhu me lhima imoik Interlinear: aun hi-at kulhe kuso-i if is-Dep green among-Dat "if there is green all around" ki kahp-at-e aho ki hi-at suhu and fall-Dep-the sun and is-Dep wind "and the sun goes down, and there's wind" me lhima imoik I be.here at.home "I am here at home" (Dep = dependent order suffix. Dependent order marking appears on verbs which occur in embedded clauses, including clauses headed by "aun" = "if".) The only line which scans properly is the last one. By altering the sense slightly, I can pare it down to the proper number of syllables: Aun lhima kulhe, kahpat aho, lialhopat, me lhima imoik "If there is green here, sun(s) descend, there-is-blowing, I am here at home." Matt.
