Yuck, it doesn't look like it belongs there. I personally like <n~> or

I just usually put diacritics after, thus e^ for =EA. But, I did have
trouble with Eastern's schwa. In writing, I use the inverted <e>, but
in typing, I had to choose something, for a while I used @, but that was
just ugly, so I decided to use =EB/e"
