It's hard to generalize, but I can share my personal experience.
Most of my gay male friends seem to be drawn to relationships with
other men who are similar to themselves, although this sometimes runs
contrary to their preferred target of ocular enjoyment. they do often
seem to have the same definitions of "hot beefcake" as my straight
female friends. Sometimes not, though; I have one good friend who
has about the same taste in men that I do, even though I'm straight.
:) That is, the type of guy I would categorize as "hot" is also
the type of guy he's attracted to, and this is seems to be at odds
with what most of the straight women around us like. For instance,
neither one of us sees the reason for all the attention on the
guy who plays Legolas in the Lord of the Rings movies, but we both
think the guy who plays John Doe on the like-named TV show is hot. :)
I don't know many lesbians, but the "like attracts like" rule for
relationships seems to be less prevalent with them, and they do
seem to like to look at pretty much the same variety of "hot babe"
that I do.
