There was a study done 2 or 3 years ago which reached the conclusion that
people are attracted to those with features which come closest to an
abstract average of the features of those whom they see on a daily basis (I
guess blind individuals aren't attracted to anyone). They arrived at this
"average" face via morphing pics they had taken. I saw nothing to indicate
they even considered gays, lesbians or transgendered, nor even showed
same-gender averages to individuals. And I have no idea how diverse or dense
their sampling was.
I seriously question the "hardwired" assumption.
