matthew writes "elì elì lëmà sabaxtháni;" half Hebrew, half Aramaic,
which in the Vulgate is rendered "Eli, Eli, lamma sabactháni." Then
he adds (in the Latin) "hoc est Deus meus, Deus meus, ut quid
dereliquisti me?"
Mark writes "elwì elwì lamà sabaxtháni;" This reflects an Aramaic
version of the line (Psalm 22:2), "ëlahi, ëlahi, lëma shëbaqtáni."
The Hebrew is "eli, eli, lama azabtáni. Then he adds (in the
Latin), "quod est interpretatum: Deus meus,...."
ë = schwa.
