Hmmm... possibly... although it's only left on the nouns. Would it
make sense that there used to be whole nother series of pronouns, which
ended in |s|, |l|, |t|, |dh| (agent noun), |d|, instead of just |z|
(subject) and |sh| (non-subject), and then they all just fell out of
use?
So for instance, where 'today' you'd say:
slyihths-a suddamet uhz. /slj1Ts?a suddamEt Vz/
In Proto-Rokbei-Drughu it could have been something like:
sluyithus 'a'a su:s-damet @:s. /slujiTus ?a?a su:s damet @:s/
And then the |s| of the adjective marker merged with all the other
adjective markers into |d|, and |s| of the pronoun into |z|, and the
|s| at the end of the noun stayed, semi-productively.
