Of course you're quite right; the Welsh for _wether_ is 'mollt' anf the
Cornish _mols_, so presumably the root is *molt-

I guess the -on- bit is from the latinizing of this word into the 3rd
declension: multo, multonis.

I agree about the retention of the /t/, however.
