Well, Zulu uses "x", "c" and "q" to represent clicks.
"X" is lateral. "Q" is palatal.  And "c" is alveolar,
IIRC.  I think "gx", "gc" and "gq" are used for the
voiced counterparts. And monstrosities like "ngx",
etc. are used for the naslaized series.  Xhosa does
something similar with its spellings of clicks.
Khoisan languages have far more clicks than the Bantu
langs and resort to "!" "|" and bulls-eye among other
symbols.
