What? Do you really think the letters we write are 8mm high? They never get higher than 6mm (for l and f) above the baseline and 4mm (for p and j) under it. With 1cm between lines, you still have a lot of place.

LOL.

Well, you have strange humour then. It *is* tall enough. You've not been here to check, so please believe my experience.
>(though my handwriting tends to be rather tall, >but IME my handwriting double-spaced is a lot more legible than anyone's >single).
Maybe you just have a bad handwriting to French standards :)) .
>I know, but making it easier to read (and write---I default to double >spaced) is, in my books, more important than a tree that was grown for >the sole purpose of being my paper. Or do you not buy plantation paper, >preferring to cut down old-growth forests? :)
Rather, you keep forgetting that the point is that we *learn* it that way, and we are used to read it that way and write it that way, and keep it legible. If you're too lazy to adapt, that's your problem. But we do it and succeed in reading it.

We only write double spaced when doing dictations in primary school, so that the teacher will have place enough for the corrections. Apart from that, we never write double-spaced. It's unnecessary.
>I'm yet to understand that. Most prescriptions are clear enough---a tick >here, a number there, or maybe the entire thing's been typed :)
You've never seen true doctor's handwriting then. It's worse than the handwriting of philosphers of the 17th century!! ;)))
>I'm impressed.
I'm not. I find it *normal*. It's basic education you know, that you must master after the first year of primary school (age 6-7). Anyone who can't has a serious learning problem and needs special help. Christophe Grandsire. http://rainbow.conlang.free.fr You need a straight mind to invent a twisted conlang.
