i think in england it would definitely vary by social
class / region &c, but it wouldn't be whisky, as
that's only made in scotland ( and, as a one off, in
wales : the confusingly gaelic-named da mhìle ) . . .
unless you're thinking of english as spoken by old
farts in gentlemen's clubs. for other registers you
could need ( and i'm afraid this is mostly relevant to
the urban middle classes . . . but an exhaustive
listing would be pyrrhic ) :

student : whatever's cheap at the local student bar
suburban twenty-something male : uk-brewed foreign
brand lager
urban twenty-something male : foreign-brewed foreign

thirty something professional male : real ale
thrity something professional female : old world

( the middle aged fall between this last and this next
