Re: Religious Festivities

I haven't really been following this thread, until this post caught my
eye. So please forgive me if I've really misinterpreted what someone
meant.

I'm not Christian (anymore), nor Jewish, but this strikes me as asking
for confusion if not insult. The two holidays coincide on the calendar
because of their historical connections, but they are *not* the same
holiday. They are celebrated differently, and commemorate completely
different things. I haven't been following the progress on NGL, but a
deliberate conflation such as this seems unwise to me.

If, however, you wanted to use a common term for the *calendar period*
in which both of these holidays fall, then I'd see no problem.

Many neo-pagan groups celebrate the winter solstice, which falls around
December 20 or 21 in the northern hemisphere. One term for this holiday
is "Yule", but I'm sorry I can't remember the language of origin of the
