etir > ethir etir > eidir etir > eidir > eidhir or maybe a whole new rule for use between two front vowels: etir > eithir They all sound really nice. As far as plausibility, I think you're welcome to indulge yourself until linguists come up with a universal theory explaining what makes sound changes happen in the first place.
