Absolutely! Don't forget that Dutch is quite soaked with words and expression taken directly from French. Yes, we have "panorama" and "idée-fixe". Although I'm not sure whether we got "panorama" from French; it seems to me that it is quite an international word. We also have "asterisk" and "obelisk". What Tristan wrote about Australia happens also here: that less educated people often tend to refer to * as an "asterix". The only names that don't make any sense in Dutch are Abraracourcix and Assurancetourix. Do they make sense in French? In other language, they usually have names like "Majestix" and "Kakofonix". In the Frisian translation the name of the druid is "Krudemix" (<- Kruidenmix).

They are. Personally, I find Idéfix one of the better inventions! Jan ===== "Originality is the art of concealing your source." - Franklin P.
