This made a nice translation exercise in Gevey (which doesn't believe in all
this passive/antipassive nonsense and does everything by relativisation)
girl - vuefne (ye vuefant)
brother - huspe (ye husep)
(first word is subject form, word in brackets is direct object form)
to hit - guucan
to punish - cishwhan
her - afken
someone - shonaa
zhek (zheg) - subject entry relative conjunction
zhec (zhej) - direct object entry relative conjunction
oc - direct object hook relative conjunction
vde - past tense version of the auxillary verb en
"The girl was punished" is translated into Gevey asd "[somebody] punished the
girl" - though "shonaa" can be dropped from the sentence if previous
conversation hints at who is doing the punishing
somebody punished the girl
- shonaa ciswhate ye vuefant
the girl hit her brother
- vuefne guucate ye husep afken
her brother hit the girl
- huspe afken guucate ye vuefant
The girl who was hit by her brother was punished
- ciswhate ye vuefant zheg vde guucalta ye husep afken oc
The girl who hit her brother was punished
- ciswhate ye vuefant zhej vde guucal huspe afken oc
