Hi Christophe, long time no hear. Could you have heard m(i)entre in N.E. Spain, where Catalan and a plethora of other dialects/languages are used? I somehow doubt that m(i)entre was from Spanish, but rather another Romantic tongue... Anyhow, if anyone looks through the "Rimas" by the famous Spaniard poet Gustavo Becquer, I think you may find mientres instead of mientras....
