Vasiliy < Greek _Basileios_ - adj. 'royal' or 'king-like' (derived from
_basileus_ 'king', which seems to have no obvious etymology)
Chernov < the stem of Rus. _chernyj_ 'black' + a possessive/patronymic
suffix; 'a/the black one's (descendant)'. The family legend says that
one of the ancestors was a Gypsie man.
