I still like Joerg's CPA, but have started learning and using (abusing?) X-SAMPA. Credit and/or blame Christophe ;) for that. For me, what would be ideal is some _useable, user-friendly_ form of phonemic orthography using the Roman alphabet - plus a few diacritics and accents - that works (somewhat) like IPA but actually "looks good" as well - in both hard-copy print and ASCII. Perhaps some hybrid thing along the lines of Inglish Spelin Reeform/Zheo-Inglis combined with Gwoyeu romatzyh ("national romanization") devised by Lin Yu-t'ang and Chao Yuen-ren in the 1930's for Mandarin (& other regionalects of Chinese as well), eh?
