Re: An Aelya translation

Hi.

Here's the Cein version of the prayer from the
13th Warrior. The grammar is getting more and
more stable. Fortunately. There are still lots
of question marks, even in a simple translation
like this. I include some comments at the end
of this mail.

    Eal, ney ni an ceinidd sen i adar a amm new.
    Eal, si ney ni an ceinidd i adarod new yl efin.
    Eal, na i eur new tanom, i na efin sen felddur.
    Na felddur llim fein, llim leg.
    Naenth i ddyr a'i in sew nen so.
    Na so an ieillidd in ni. A mab ni in so.

PCPL = present participle
INF = infinitive
PRS = present tense
REL = relative particle
AUG = augmentative particle
IMP = imperative mood

COMMENTS:

The verbs are in the present progressive form. I'm not
sure if this is really correct here, but that's the
form I'm most fond of. :)

It looks like this:

Is the man at walk -> The man is walking.

Predicative adjectives and nouns work as verbs,
but unlike verbs they undergo soft mutation.

     na felddur an leg ( < lleg )      [ADJ]
     is Valinor at green
     'Valinor is green.'

     na'i   nwyr an ieillidd           [VERB]
     is-the man  at calling
     'The man is calling.'

     na'i   nwyr an eur                [NOUN]
     is-the man  at master
     'The man is a master.'

I'm pretty sure I'll have dative forms of the pronouns,
just like Quenya and Aelya, but as for now, I just use
the regular pronouns (note that there is no difference
between subject and object) plus the preposition _in_
'to, for'.


COMPARISON BETWEEN CEIN AND AELYA:

Being so closely related, I thought it might be interesting
to compare the Cein and Aelya versions:

Eal, ney ni an ceinidd sen i adar a amm new.
Ela, nan ar chenad sin adyr as amma en.

Eal, si ney ni an ceinidd i adarod new yl efin.
Ela, si nan ar chenad adeinn orala eilh bhen.

Eal, na i eur new tanom, i na efin sen felddur.
Ela, na emel en tamm, i ar ch'orad sa Bhelen.

Na felddur llim fein, llim leg.
