Gosh. I have no idea how Chevraqis would render this one, because if I use the word for "shadow" (sjaraha, in the voluntary agentive case), it connotes "soul," or "the void from which everything springs." Actually, I'll give this one a try, since I see it now--"shadow" and "substance" get reversed in the literal translation of the Chevraqis equivalent! Karesjanad habazaz baraín, sjarahie mabadaz. elements:loc fight:plain-present when, shadow:involuntary-experiencer forget:plain-present. In Kirschenbaum: kare'Sanad? ha'b@zaZ ba'raIn, Sara'hie ma'b@daZ. Karesjana or "elements" refers to material, worldly things (made of fire, water, air, earth). Sjaraha or "shadow" refers to the mystical essence. So the meanings of "shadow" and "substance" are flipped about pi radians from their English meanings in this context. YHL
