My idiolect agrees with Laurie's. Supper is the evening meal. =
Dinner
is the biggest meal of the day. Often dinner is supper, but not always.
BTW, I /warS/ my hands before dinner, and sometimes drink soda during
dinner. I've lived most of my life in Conn., but lived in Ohio until I =
was
nine. I still retain some of my Midwestern dialect (although /warS/ is =
from
my Pennsylvanian mother). For instance, what my kids call "fireflies" I
call "lightning bugs".
