Sorry I was out of town.

With regard to Yitzik's bold statement that Russians who live in Russia
do not understand Ukrainian, it's pretty much an overstatment.

Once again, that is a bit misleading. My mother was able to converse
freely in a bilingual way (i. e. she'd be addressed in Ukr. and answer
in Russian) on her third day in Kiev when she worked there.

With regard to the Ukrainian literary language, my uncle's wife, who is
from Lubny (i. e. the Poltava region as well), keeps saying she finds
modern literary Ukrainian (i. e., say, the TV1-Ukrainian) far too
'zaxodens'ky', i. e. Western.
