The beauty of it :) Very idiomatic English, but it seems so straightforward and simple if looked at uncritically :) The context of the quote makes it seem that 'love' refers to a general, spiritual phenomenon, rather than a specific feeling toward an individual or group. 'Law' is metaphorically used here as in 'law of nature/ the universe', i.e. it is demanded by the universe. Hard to explain, this is just a metaphor that Western culture in general probably takes so much for granted that most people probably wouldn't even recognize it as such. (Others: spatial words to describe time; conflict/warfare terminology to describe a whole array of phenomenon; etc.) The quote is from _The Book of Thoth_ (Crowley 1944). beawan jin, .yasmin.
