Many of the Olaetyan religions are named after the particular gods they
follow. (Actually, the name applies to the followers as a group, not to =
the
religion in the abstract sense.) So for instance, followers of Nensko are
Nenskians, followers of Lenale are Lenalians, and so on. A few are
different, for instance the Alnakians, who follow Dev=E1ri. The word =
"alnak"
means "creator of light" and is used as an alternate name for Dev'ari
(which itself isn't the god's true name, but an alias used by Dev=E1ri's
followers to avoid the unlucky consequences of speaking the god's actual
name). Similarly, the goddess Nwm is also known as "nukaz", which means
"dark voice", and "yal=E1y" ("nature") is another name for Yoele. The =
only
god known by his true name is =C9=E7=E8relph, the god of bad luck.
(I know the -ian suffix really ought to be something more exotic, but
Olaetyan was my first language, and there's still a lot of residue from =
the
early years before I had much experience with designing languages. And =
none
of the recently-designed cultures have religions other than what they =
might
have borrowed from Humans.)
