HAHAHA! Did they listen? :-)
And in Japanese movies from, say, 1700, they ought to speak older
Japanese, too. The only thing they do in anime is to have the samurai
use the copula 'de gozaruyo'. :-) ('Samurai Fiction' is in my mind
(not an anime).)
But fortunately (not really), I don't understand Japanese, so I don't
bother too much. OTOH, because I have to read subtitles, I would be
even pleased to know that the Japanese is old and would never be
*bothered* that it is.
