Then the *whole* movie would have to be subtitled, and the American
audience would jib violently at that.  I kept having two different
reactions: 1) What a crock!  2) What a movie!  I found this on a
Web site afterwards (paraphrased):  How would an American audience have
reacted to a film about the American Revolution that portrayed George
Washington as a simple farmer, rather than a plantation owner, who went
into battle in a fancy Indian outfit, with feathers and wampum belt;
Thomas Jefferson as a weak-willed wimp totally under the thumb of an
older relative who was in fact dead at the time, and culminating with
a scene of Washington having sex with the future Queen Victoria?
