Even in English, I've never used the word "conlang" in speech. If you
want a term that the uninitiated will understand, it has to be
self-explanatory, which pretty much excludes any shortening to make
the term easier to say.
Technical terms are only useful when you're talking with someone who
knows what you're talking about.
