German uses two constructions: a) treat it like a comparison: A ist größer als B. lit. A is larger than B A ist anders als B. lit. A is different than B b) use a copula and coordinate the two things with 'and': A und B sind unterschiedlich. lit. A and B are different. Interestingly, I only noticed now that two different words need to be used: *'A ist unterschiedlich als B' is plain wrong and 'A und B sind anders' means that the two differ from something else, but not from each other. **Henrik
