I'd like to take a guess at the Swahili construction. the verb is: kuwa na INF-be with "to have" I'll use "SCD17" for the subject concord for class 17 (locative class), although I don't know if this is a standard interlinear abbreviation for Swahili. Kuna mmoja tu. SCD17-be.with one only. "The place has only one." "There is only one." Kunaweza kuwa na mmoja tu. SCD17-PRES-can INF.be with one only. "The place can have only one." "There can be only one." Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. René
